Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa celebrates its 30th anniversary this April with a series of festive special events, parties, retro menu offerings, and contests. Built in 1980 for $80 million, Hyatt Regency Maui was the first destination resort in the world, and its groundbreaking resort-as-destination concept incorporating extensive gardens, water playgrounds and rockscapes, wildlife and notable art collection forever changed the landscape of resorts around the globe. Hyatt Regency Maui dedicates the month of April to a playful look back at its history as well as its future, culminating in a spectacular Eighties-themed disco party.
30th Anniversary Black & White Disco Pool Party, April 17, 2010 The highlight of the months festivities, Hyatt Regency Mauis 30th Anniversary Black & White Disco Pool Party takes a look back at where it all started. The Eighties-themed party begins around the resorts Lahaina Pool and continues late-night, as Spats, Hyatts infamous nightclub, reopens for an unforgettable one-night-only experience. Transformed into a disco, the party will include entertainment from Spats dancers, Malibu models, and Cirque Polynesia performers, as well as refreshments, and the signature spinning of DJ Blast, Mauis most popular DJ and Hyatts former featured entertainer back in the day. Black and white and disco attire is strongly encouraged. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Visitor Industry Charity Walk. The VIP reception from 8:00 10:00pm includes guaranteed table, champagne, drink tickets, and passed appetizers at Spats. Retro Menus & Music Hyatt Regency Maui takes a trip back to The Eighties with retro menu specials at Umalu in April. >From April 18 27, guests can relive Tom Cruises movie Cocktail with the Electric Slide, a frozen neon blue island margarita with Sauza Tequila, Blue Curaao and Maui Gold Pineapple ($8). Also all the rage in the 80s, Grilled Pacific Swordfish (Shutome) will make a tasty appearance from April 1 30, paired with Pickled Ginger & Bamboo Rice, Black Bean Puree, and Tropical Fruit Salsa ($30). Providing musical backdrop, the Citrus College band will perform frequently throughout the resort from June 30 through July 18.
Honoring Employees Long recognized for fostering a happy staff ohana, Hyatt Regency Maui boasts as many as 70 loyal staff as charter employees since 1980. From April 1- 30, the resort will offer a retrospective display of photos honoring long-time employees, which make up approximately 8% of the overall staff. On Monday, April 19, General Manager Michael Jokovich will give tribute to all staff with a birthday-themed celebration and presentation of a huge birthday cake in the resort atrium lobby.
Saying Aloha to Social Media In addition to the launch of Facebook & Twitter campaign,30 Things You Didnt Know, which highlights little-known facts about the resort, Hyatt Regency Maui has also launched a compelling Facebook contest inviting fans to post a favorite Maui memory with photo for a chance to win a luxurious six-night Ultimate 30th Anniversary Experience package. The contest, which runs through 12pm HST on April 30, 2010, enlists fans of the resort to vote for a favorite Maui memory with a thumps up. The appropriately-themed package includes all the essentials to create the definitive Maui vacation experience, including: 30 pink (Maui) roses, 30 minute couples massage, 30-minute tennis lesson, $30/day resort credit, 30% off the Drums of the Pacific luau, Cirque Polynesia, dining at Umalu, and much more.

Guests booking the 30thAnniversary Celebration Stay between April 4 June 13, 2010 will receive 25% off rates (Aloha Rates), plus a $30 per day resort credit to use towards all resort amenities, activities and dining. Gold Passport members will receive an additional 3,000 bonus points. Rates start at $281 per night.
